Biography of Angela Bassett
|
Angela Evelyn Bassett born on August 16th, 1958 is a famous American actress with several awards to her credit. To date Oscar-nominee Bassett has won 14 various eminent awards, which include Emmy, Golden Globes and Golden Apples, Black Reel and Black Movie awards for her stunning performances in different movies. She is well known for her portrayal of the real-life characters of renowned black women, who influenced and contributed to American culture.
Angela Bassett was born in Bronx, the northernmost borough in New York City to Betty Bassett and Daniel Benjamin Bassett and she along with her sister D'nette were raised by her over-protective mother. Angela attended Boca Ciega High School in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Right from her school days, the exciting little Bassett was very active making her mark in several activities like debates, choir and drama club activities. It was here at the school, her teacher noticing her extraordinary talents in acting encouraged her to attend Yale, which she applied and secured a scholarship.
After spending seven years at Yale, the twenty-five-year-old Bassett came out with flying colors in 1983 armed with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Yale University. Soon after graduation, the soon-to-be actress did a couple of small time jobs working as a receptionist and a photo researcher. She later appeared in a couple of plays "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" {1984} and "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" {1986} directed by her long-time instructor Lloyd Richards.
